@mack89464 Sounds nice, but that’s a meaningless statement. Now if you are saying that having simple tastes is okay, well I agree. If you’re saying everyone should have simple tastes like you–well, that’s asinine and it sounds defensive.
@Rachael1918 Yeah the comment was inspired by you, but it was too harsh. If anything, this song just makes me feel old already and I’m not even 35. Still, I think the experience-factor is relevant: as we age, our regrets increase. I think of this song as an anti-self-pity ballad–if he really did have the chance to become young and glum again, would it be worth it to do things differently if he didn’t meet her? The song and the video say no. I agree, cool vid.
Is it really over analysis? It’s obvious the current version of his wife is barely reacting to his presence, except in very casual, almost automatic ways. It’s obvious he looks back fondly at his youthful wife, and their love. It’s obvious from the lyrics that, despite the more mature love they currently share, he doesnt regret a thing.
It’s not like I’m stating the video is about a visit from Martians, that would be over analysis!
If the illiterate American kids comment was directed at me, I would like to point out that I am English and studying for a BA in English. My original comment on the video was a mere first impression, the undeveloped thoughts I left with after watching the clip for the first time. Is it really so terribly wrong to record a first impression, even if its undeveloped? I would have thought recording some form of opinion is at least better than commenting Kool vid!!!!
You should remember that I did state in my original response that I was confused by a seeming disparity between the message evoked buy the song and the video. I do not see a disparity anymore. Although he remembers his youthful wife fondly and with great love, his memories do not diminish or devalue his present relationship with her. He looks back into the past wistfully, but not with deep regret.
Okay, I see your points and have re-considered mine. Instead of being bored by each other, they have both matured and now share a very different kind of love to that they in their youth. The older wife’s automatic behaviour with him and lack of interaction are not due to any dislike, but are instead the result of great, but not excessive, familiarity with his presence.
the dude is a Mac’ Daddy!!
Feel a little depressed until 2 .13 but how cute is she? The thin white duke rocks!
I remember when This video came out. Is that supposed to be him when he was younger in the reflection? It looked pretty bad.
sounds like ‘leave love enough alone’ by doug ashdown in the chorus there! hmmm…..
I predict the rest of the night will be chilly.
I swear I’ve seen a different edit of this video.
I love the way he smiles to her, he’s still a very good looking man!
Haha she turned his music off….

I’m glad we have David Bowie to help us trust our experiences in the bathroom. At least it happens to him too.
i think both the song and the video are too beautifully intelligent to try and figure out. it’s DAVID BOWIE just enjoy all he has to offer!

This video is awsome. It says so much with such simple images and concepts.

I love the over analysis of art. Sometimes when you look too deeply you miss whats sitting there right on the surface.
